This sugar cookie recipe is so yummy! It’s basically an Amish Butter Cookie recipe, but instead of scooping the cookies and placing them directly on the baking sheet, you flatten them down before baking and then frost them after! They remind me of these Utah-famous cookies called “Swig Cookies” that sell at this soda shop chain all across the state. They’re fabulously delish, but I think I just may like mine better.

Soft and Chewy Sugar Cookies
These sugar cookies are perfectly soft and sweet with just the right amount of tangy frosting. Beware: They're addictive!

ingredients:
Cookies
- 1 cup softened salted butter
- 1 cup canola oil
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
Frosting
- 1/2 cup room temperature salted butter
- 3/4 cup room temperature sour cream
- 5-6 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla

How to cook Soft and Chewy Sugar Cookies
Cookies
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- In a large bowl, cream together the sugars, butter, and oil. Mix in the eggs one at a time.
- Mix in the vanilla, cream of tartar and baking soda until well combined.
- Add the flour 1/2 cup at a time, and mix until the dough comes together.
- Using a small cookie scoop, scoop the dough and then roll into a ball. Place on the cookie sheet two inches apart.
- Spray the bottom of a cup with baking spray and dip it in powdered sugar. Shake off excess sugar, and then use the sugar-coated cup to flatten the tops of the cookies.
- Bake for 8 minutes, then let cool completely in the fridge.
Frosting
- In a small bowl, mix together the butter and sour cream.
- Add in the powdered sugar 1/2 cup at a time until the frosting comes together.
- Mix in the vanilla until well combined.
Assembly
- Once the cookies are completely cooled, frost them by spreading on a dollop with a spoon and garnishing with your favorite sprinkles.
